What You Need to Know about Working Remotely from a Yacht

Posted by Ashley Wright

As most of the world has transitioned to working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many have found comfort in the flexibility that a remote work environment offers. For some, it was an excuse to renovate their home office – for others, it was an opportunity to pack up their computer and trade their desk for an office in the location of their dreams.

If you’re looking for a new and adventurous way to work remotely, you may want to get your luggage ready and consider working remotely from a yacht. Despite being in the middle of the ocean, it is possible to get work done while enjoying gorgeous views all around the world.

Whether you’re working on deck or staying as a guest, you’ll likely find peace with all of the benefits yachting has to offer. If you get the chance to work remotely, why not do it in a magical place? Check out our tips for working remotely on a yacht!

Ensure that the Boat has Secure Internet

If your schedule consists of meetings or you have to meet crucial deadlines, it is essential that your internet is secure and stable. It’s best not to use public WiFi, as it is not as secure as a private, data encrypted connection. It’s recommended to use a VPN (virtual private network), which conceals your IP address while online. Taking protective measures can not only ensure that you have internet access at all times, but it can also prevent you from getting hacked.

Balance Work and Pleasure

Staying disciplined is one of the hardest aspects of working remotely. While it can be easy to lose track of time while you’re in paradise, you must be able to balance your work and personal time in order to be effective at your job. With nobody around to monitor you in a typical office setting, there may be times that you feel like slacking off and taking a relaxing walk on the beach.

However, you need to firmly draw the line between work and pleasure. Set an alarm for breaks or work in a space that is only dedicated to your job. At the same time, know that setting aside time for self-care is important as well. Work hard so you can play hard!

Stick to Your Schedule

Organization and time management are critical in any job but are especially vital when working remotely while at sea. Filling in gaps when you’re getting to your next destination and not working can be difficult, but with some planning and effective time management, it is manageable. Try to make a daily schedule and stick to it. Don’t respond to work emails outside of your usual work hours and be sure to stay on task.

Be Prepared

When you’re in the middle of the ocean, you can’t exactly make a Target run if you forgot to pack something. With that being said, be sure to pack everything you know you will need and then some to prepare for a life of remote work from a yacht. It is also important to be aware of the weather so that everything can be upheld properly. You can never be too prepared.
